Sony Launches New VPL-HS50 LCD Projector with 6000:1 Contrast Ratio

4TH October 2004 - Sony today announced the introduction of the Sony VPL-HS50 (VPLHS50), a Home Cinema LCD projector that is packed with features and designed to deliver an outstanding viewing experience.

The Sony VPL-HS50 LCD projector uses groundbreaking Sony technology to deliver a stunning contrast ratio of 6000:1. This is made possible through a unique combination of Micro Lens Array and Wide View Film, which produce deeper black colours, plus Sony’s newly developed “Advanced Iris Control” function, which dynamically changes according to the input signal to achieve optimum contrast ratio.

In addition, the Sony VPL-HS50 LCD projector has a resolution of 2.8 million pixels (1280 x 720 x 3), brightness of 1200 ANSI lumen and is equipped with an HDMI connector and 12 bit panel driver to ensure optimum picture quality. Sony’s Real Colour Processing (RCP) technology allows customers to make further, fine adjustments to projected colours and obtain a picture exactly suiting their individual tastes. The new All Range Crisp Focus (ARC-F) lens ensures picture uniformity across the entire screen.

The Sony VPL-HS50 LCD projector offers huge set-up flexibility due to lens shift, which allows for off-centre placement of the projector versus the screen thanks to horizontal and vertical adjustment of picture positioning. In addition, the new standard 1.6 times zoom lens offers a greater range of throwing distances, enabling maximum flexibility in positioning of the VPL-HS50 whilst eliminating the requirement for optional long or short throw lenses (e.g. a 100-inch (2.5 metres) diagonal screen size will be achieved from a distance of 2.9 – 4.6 metres from the screen). The elegant design and black and silver colours of the Sony VPL-HS50 LCD projector ensure that it will look good in any home.

The extremely low fan noise of only 24dB means that even if people sit close to the projector, important moments will not be disturbed.

“Sony continues to invest in LCD panels and projection technology and is now able to deliver a groundbreaking new product with a contrast ratio level never seen before in an LCD projector,” said Erica Carver, Product Manager, Sony Professional Plasma and Projectors. “The Sony VPL-HS50 LCD projector is designed especially for the Home Cinema market, where contrast, overall picture quality and silent operation are the most important purchase criteria. We are confident that the VPL-HS50 projector will exceed the expectations of our customers and build on the success of our existing range, including the wireless products launched by Sony in September.”
