Virtual Warehouse taps into eBay sales

Virtual Warehouse is an eBay store owned and maintained by Spex Internet Limited, a full-service web agency based in Ware, Hertfordshire. Virtual Warehouse acts as a supporting e-tail channel to existing e-commerce websites. Virtual Warehouse also enables web trading to clients who have no e-commerce website or online experience - they supply the products, Spex markets them professionally online.

Rather than build an e-commerce website and then commit significant marketing spend to attracting an audience, the Virtual Warehouse eBay store has quickly established healthy online sales by offering its products to an already thriving eBay audience that is in active buying mode.

In its first month Virtual Warehouse has transacted over 100 sales with a wide range of products:

  • Designer kitchen taps
  • Sony Electronics products
  • Dragonfly clothing range (Men: Dragonfly shirts, Women: Dragonfly clothing)
  • Garden products
"Virtual Warehouse demonstrates that e-Commerce doesn't have to involve a large initial investment on e-Commerce websites and marketing spend" says Spex Managing Director Colin Irwin. "An e-commerce concept can be trialled on eBay without committing to long term outlay. It's an ideal way to test the water with e-Commerce & should be considered by existing e-tailers as an effective way to expand online sales."

"Not every product will sell well on eBay." continues Irwin, "eBay shoppers are mostly looking for bargains so full price product is difficult to sell unless it's hard to find through conventional channels. The best products are those at the start or end of the product lifecycle. Japanese imports of the Playstation handheld, which is not yet on general sale in the UK, are selling at a premium on eBay. At the other end of the product lifecycle end of line stocks that can be cleared at heavy discounts will also enjoy significant sales."

Spex apply various sales strategies on eBay that boost sales levels, increase average selling prices, lower transaction costs and boost profits. "Our research has shown that we are already grabbing a major percentage of eBay sales for certain products we have test marketed. We are selling more at higher prices than long-established eBay sellers" says Irwin. "We have proved the concept works and we are looking to expand the range of products we sell - new lines are already agreed and we are actively seeking more. We forecast significant growth through our eBay sales channel in the coming months"
